China’s aquatic enchantress, three-time 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games gold medallist Yu Yiting, gracefully claimed bronze in the women’s 200m individual medley at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships. At the age of 18, Yu showcased her prowess with elegance and finesse, finishing third in 2:09.01.

Though she trailed behind the top seed Kate Douglass and silver medalist Sydney Pickrem, Yu’s performance was a testament to her unwavering determination and unyielding spirit

“My time in the final wasn’t so good—it was slower than Fukuoka—but I still got a bronze medal, so it’s great!” Yu said. I’m honored to be among the medalists because Douglass and Pickrem are very good swimmers. In Fukuoka, I got bronze, and today, I got bronze. I am so happy—bronze girl!”

“I want to have a better time in the next opportunity. For Paris I want to achieve a new personal best, like 2:07:00, two seconds faster than tonight. Will it be enough for a medal there? I don’t know! But I’ll try to make the best of myself and see what happens.”

Despite her third-place finish in Fukuoka, Yu continued to soar, reaching new heights at the Asian Games where she made her mark on the all-time rankings. As she glides through the currents of possibility, Yu Yiting reminds us that true greatness lies not in the destination, but in the journey itself. In her graceful strokes, she inspires us all to chase our dreams with unwavering determination and unyielding spirit.
